Vanderbilt Project on Unity & American Democracy 2023 Poetry Contest



In partnership with Vanderbilt University’s English Department and MFA Program in Creative Writing, the Vanderbilt Project on Unity & American Democracy is accepting poetry submissions from students currently enrolled in any Tennessee college or university.

Submitted works should explore “what unity through American democracy means to you.”

The winning poems may have their work published and will receive cash prizes as follows:

1. First Place: $1,000

2. Second Place: $500

3. Third Place: $250

Major Jackson, a renowned American poet, Vanderbilt professor and host of The Slowdown podcast, and Cara Dees, a poet and Vanderbilt professor, will serve as judges.

Submissions are due no later than 12 a.m. CT on March 15, 2023.
